The World Above – The World Below

What happens when two worlds meet our own?
Gods argue, demons fall in love, and earth becomes a playground!

During 2010 I was commissioned by The British Museum to create six interlinked performances inspired by ‘A History of the World in 100 Objects’project. The performances were based on objects such as: a mammoth tuska stone tablet; a mosaic tilefragments of calligraphy, and a bronze statue . The performances lasted six hours and spread over a whole year! The World Above – The World Below draws on this research.

The World Above – The World Below weaves together fact and fiction, and the elemental worlds of Roman, Indian and Babylonian mythology. The listener is transported through three worlds, as the ancient mythologies expose the relationship between the sexes, question the nature of desire, and look towards death for fertility.
