{"id":104,"date":"2011-01-10T19:58:18","date_gmt":"2011-01-10T18:58:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sallypommeclayton.com\/blog\/?p=104"},"modified":"2023-06-22T13:54:19","modified_gmt":"2023-06-22T12:54:19","slug":"story-bazaar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/makeandbelieve.uk\/?p=104","title":{"rendered":"STORY BAZAAR"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Story Bazaar<\/em><\/strong> is a multi-lingual storytelling performance project I am leading, in conjunction with <br \/><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.routesintolanguages.ac.uk\/london\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Capital L, the London Consortium of Routes into Languages<\/span><\/a> who <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/routesintolanguages\/5208429011\/in\/photostream\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">support and encourage <\/span><\/a>young people to\u00a0study languages<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bazaar was traditionally the place where traders and travellers met to exchange goods, news and tales. Oral traditions are nourished by this mix of languages and cultures, and stories are carried away, and new versions created.&nbsp; The project is working with three London schools to inspire a creative approach to learning languages, and support students to tell stories in their second language. The long term aim is to encourage students to stick with language learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Gaynes School in Upminster, Year 8 students are learning French and have been creating animal stories and making puppet shows. Connecting to the language through the imagination, is helping students engage more freely with speaking.&nbsp; The project culminates in a conference at LSE on 11 February, where students will gather for the <strong><em>Story Bazaar<\/em><\/strong> to share their stories alongside academic papers and workshops.
